神学 is the disciplined reflection on the mystery of God in the world 和 on the traditions of belief, 敬拜, 和 ethics that shape communities of faith. It explicitly reinforces the tradition of Jesuit humanism, which prizes the scholarly investigation of religious faith 和 its impact on human culture. The study of theology is an essential feature of the Core Curriculum in a Jesuit, 天主教大学. This implies an institutional commitment to the Roman Catholic tradition, but also encourages the study 和 underst和ing of other theological traditions.
The Core requirement in 神学 is six credit hours 和 may be fulfilled in a variety of ways. Each offers distinctive contributions, but together they share the following goals in common:
- engaging the quest for truth 和 meaning that generate theological insight in Christianity 和 other religious traditions;
- exploring the fundamental texts 和 practices that shape Christian theology;
- underst和ing the dynamic relationship between religious truth-claims 和 their moral implications, 个人的和social的;
- engaging the various disciplinary methods required for theological reflection, 包括文本, 历史, social, 和 cultural analysis; 和
- relating theological inquiry to the enduring questions animating the broader liberal arts tradition.
The Core requirement in theology is six credit hours 和 may be fulfilled by 要么 下列选项之一:

Enduring Questions courses offered by the 神学部门 (THEO 17XX) will be identified as counting as 要么 towards 基督教神学(CT) or Sacred Text 和 Traditions (STT) requirement. Note: a student may not fulfill their theology core with two Enduring Questions courses.
神学 Core Guidelines for Students Who Entered the University before the Fall of 2019
1. Students who have already completed all of their theology core as of Fall 2019: have completed their theology core 和 have nothing further to do in this regard.
2. Students who have completed none of their theology core as of Fall 2019: must complete the core according to the new requirements, regardless of when they entered the university.
3. Students who have partially completed their theology core as of Fall 2019: must complete the theology core according to the new requirements. For this purpose, old theology core courses count for the following:

- THEO 1016 Introduction to Christian 神学 I
- Sacred Texts 和 Traditions (STT):
- THEO 1001-1002 Biblical Heritage I 和 II

例如, 从2019年秋季开始, if a student has previously completed only THEO 1023 Exploring Catholicism I, they will need to take a Sacred Texts 和 Traditions (STT) course, such as THEO1432 Hinduism 和 Christianity in Dialogue, in order to fulfill their theology core. 类似的, if a student as completed THEO 1001 Biblical Heritage I only, they will need to take a 基督教神学(CT) course, 比如THEO 1402上帝, 自我, 和social, in order to fulfill their theology core. NB: equivalents of THEO 1024 Exploring Catholicism II, THEO 1017 Introduction to Christian 神学 II, or THEO 1162 Religious Quest II will not be offered.
4. Students with THEO transfer credit will continue to be h和led on a case-by-case basis.
5. 西奥1430, 西奥1431, 西奥1432, 西奥1433, 和 THEO 1434 count towards the Cultural Diversity core requirement.
6. THEO 1161宗教探索 will now (retroactively) count toward the Cultural Diversity core requirement as well.
A student may take 要么 of these courses to fulfill the 神学 requirement:
- THEO/PHIL 1088-1089 Person 和 Social Responsibility I 和 II (for PULSE 程序 students only)
- THEO/PHIL 1090-1091 Perspectives on Western Culture I 和 II
